10 Tips to Help You Stick to a Low Fat Diet

When first beginning a diet, many people are so determined to lose weight that they will either take drastic measures or follow an unhealthy crash diet. However, after several days they may lose their zeal and fall back into their old habits. If you are serious about losing weight on a low fat diet, try following these tips to help you stay on track without feeling like you are depriving yourself.

1. Substitute.

Instead of suddenly cutting off your consumption of fatty foods, try to substitute lower fat foods instead. Going cold turkey when dieting is very difficult, and during a weak momen
t you will be tempted to binge on your favorite high fat dishes. Use lower fat alternatives to wean yourself from the guilty pleasure.

2. Plan your meals at home and make a shopping list.

Preparing meals at home is a great way to control the fat content of your food. Find low fat recipes that you would like to try and make a shopping list for the necessary ingredients. While you are at the grocery store, do not allow yourself to stray from the list. Buy everything you have written down and nothing else. It can be very tempting to toss a package of brownies into the cart, but by setting str
ict rules for yourself you will be more likely to resist the temptation.

3. Get family members on board.

Dieting can be very difficult when you are the only one around you who is making an effort to change. Especially if you are the main cook for the family, cooking separate dishes for the non-dieting crowd can make it hard to stick to your low fat diet. Encourage your family members to diet with you so that you do not have to prepare unhealthy dishes. Everyone will reap the health benefits of the low fat lifestyle, and you will be more likely to succeed if you have others dieting with you.
